I met Erin early in her freshman year at Wake Forest. No, I wasn’t a vulture. Her brother, the previously profiled Bill, was a fraternity brother of mine and for some reason he encouraged his sister to hang out with us. Erin could have done better.
Thankfully she did when she returned to Maine after graduating and met Jim. I’ve only met him once, which was at their wedding. Regardless, Jim impressed me from the get-go. He showed up, wore a tux, and said all of the right things. It’s a performance I hope to duplicate.
Jim is also one of the three guests at our wedding who’s spent a little time over in The Iraq recently. I guess the only bad thing about Jim is that after Erin moved in with him, she hasn’t been around when I make my annual call to her mother on New Year’s Eve.
Anyway, when I told Erin I was working on her profile for this blog, she said, “I’m a little curious about what you plan on writing about me. Perhaps something about how I’m MUCH cooler than Bill, perhaps?” Perhaps not. Neither of them are exactly Miles Davis, but she’s as charming as he is conniving. And that says a lot.
I guess she’ll have to settle for me writing about one of her more-desirable attributes: she’s a Red Sox and Patriots fan. And not in the stereotypical “Tom Brady is dreamy” chick way (even though he is). She knows what she’s talking about.
If you find yourself talking to Erin and Jim and the conversation hits a lull, ask her why we probably didn’t sit her next to Sean Bl. Actually, don’t. Now that I think about it, we probably will do just that.
