Information on Friday night, the White House tour, and the after-party Saturday

Some of you received this information today, but here it is for those whose e-mail address I don’t have.

Friday night: Drinkin’
We’re heading to the back bar of Old Ebbitt Grill—go through the restaurant and it’ll be on the left near the atrium. Margaret and I expect to be there around 10 p.m., but we have it on good authority that other people will be there around 9 p.m. Please join us for a drink. And if you’re looking for a place to eat Friday night, Old Ebbitt is a solid local restaurant (supposedly it was a favorite of Presidents Grant, Cleveland, Warren G. Harding, and Theodore Roosevelt).

675 15th St NW (intersection of 15h and G St. NW near the White House)

Saturday morning: White House tour
The tour starts at 10:30 a.m., so if you submitted your information and are staying at the Hamilton Crowne Plaza, please meet me in the lobby at 10 a.m. and we will walk over together, all holding a large tow rope pre-school style so no one wanders into traffic (looking at you Axle).

For those of you staying elsewhere, please meet us at the visitor entrance on the south side of East Executive Avenue—a map is here—at 10:15 a.m.

Regulations for visiting the White House are on the National Park Service’s website.

Please review the list—notably cameras, bags, and pointed items are not allowed. Violating these rules gets you a visit to Gitmo, followed by a trip to Abu Ghrab, followed by a trip to Morgantown. Bring your photo ID, however, as the Secret Service will need to see it to verify that it’s done a background check on you.

As for what you can expect to see, the tour will be similar to what you might have seen if you toured the White House in times of yore (along the lines of what’s shown on the White House’s website). The building, however, has been closed to the general public for several years now—the closest mere commoners get to seeing the inside is the White House Visitors Center a few blocks away.

Saturday late night: Drinkin’
The reception ends at midnight—or after “American Pie” is played. We’ve reserved a bar at 14K, located in the Hamilton Crowne Plaza, for those of you interested in continuing to throw down. Margaret and I will be there.

If you have any questions, please call me—703.919.8018.

If the hotel tells you our block is full, there’s a lovely park across the street from it

Rumor has it that the Hamilton Crowne Plaza has been telling folks that our reserved block is full.

It’s not.

If you’ve been given such bad information, please let me know and I’ll contact the hotel. And if you’re yet to reserve your room, but are told the block is full when you do call, please correct the person on the phone. If he or she insists that it is booked, please ask to speak to Felix.

(For details about the hotel, please visit our accommodations page.)

Also, we’re still a go on the White House tour, although it is, if course, subject to last-minute cancellation. Anyway, the tour will be around 10 or 11 a.m., so if you are interested in it, please keep those times in mind when booking your trip to Washington, DC.

On behalf of the Secret Service, we’ll be hitting up those of you taking the tour for your social security numbers shortly.

Rooms added to the hotel block

As word got back to us that the hotel was telling guests our reserved block was full, Margaret had more rooms added to it. So you should be able to get the discounted rate for both nights.

But if you still have a problem, please let me know. They guy we’ve been dealing with at the Hamilton Crowne Plaza has been fantastic (Margaret said she wants to leave me for him, only he’s not probably interested in women).

And for more details about the hotel, please visit our accommodations page.
